😊 What is Fifth Disease?
Fifth disease, also known as “slapped cheek disease,” is a mild viral illness most common in children. It’s caused by parvovirus B19 and gets its nickname from the bright red rash that often appears on the cheeks.

Cause: Parvovirus B19
Common in: Children (ages 5–15), but adults can get it too
Also called: Erythema infectiosum
Season: Often spreads in late winter and spring
🤒 Symptoms:
Bright red rash on the cheeks (looks like a slap)
Later, a lace-like rash may appear on the arms, legs, and body
Mild flu-like symptoms before rash appears:
Fever
Headache
Runny nose
Sore throat
Fatigue
In adults, joint pain or swelling is more common than a rash.

Through coughing or sneezing (respiratory droplets)
From mother to baby during pregnancy
People are most contagious before the rash appears
