What is it?
RMSF is a serious illness caused by bacteria called Rickettsia rickettsii, spread through the bite of infected ticks ๐Ÿ•ท๏ธ.


How do you get it?

  • Tick bites during outdoor activities like hiking, camping, or gardening ๐ŸŒฒ๐Ÿฅพ
  • Ticks latch onto skin and transmit the bacteria

Symptoms ๐Ÿ˜ท

  • High fever ๐ŸŒก๏ธ
  • Severe headache ๐Ÿค•
  • Muscle aches ๐Ÿ’ช
  • Rash (usually starts as small spots and spreads) ๐ŸŒถ๏ธ๐Ÿฉธ
  • Nausea and vomiting ๐Ÿคข
  • Confusion or irritability ๐Ÿง 
  • Joint pain ๐Ÿค•

Important!

If untreated, RMSF can cause serious complications like damage to organs (heart, kidneys) and can be fatal โš ๏ธ.


Diagnosis & Treatment ๐Ÿ’‰

  • Diagnosed by symptoms, history of tick exposure, and blood tests ๐Ÿฉธ
  • Treated with antibiotics (usually doxycycline) ๐Ÿ’Š
  • Early treatment is crucial!

  • Use insect repellent with DEET ๐Ÿงด
  • Wear long sleeves and pants outdoors ๐Ÿ‘•๐Ÿ‘–
  • Check for ticks after being outside ๐Ÿ”
