๐ Nasal Masses
Nasal masses refer to abnormal growths or swellings inside the nasal cavity or sinuses. They can range from benign (non-cancerous) to malignant (cancerous) and may cause nasal obstruction or other symptoms.
๐งฌ Types & Causes:
- Benign masses:
- Nasal polyps (soft, painless, inflammatory growths)
- Papillomas (wart-like growths)
- Mucoceles (cyst-like swellings)
- Hemangiomas (blood vessel tumors)
- Malignant masses:
- Squamous cell carcinoma
- Adenocarcinoma
- Melanoma
- Lymphoma
- Other causes:
- Foreign bodies (especially in children)
- Inflammatory or infectious swellings
๐ฉบ Symptoms:
- Nasal blockage or congestion
- Nasal discharge, sometimes bloody
- Reduced or lost sense of smell
- Facial pain or pressure
- Nosebleeds
- Swelling or deformity of the nose or face (in large masses)
๐ Diagnosis:
- Physical and nasal endoscopic examination
- Imaging (CT or MRI) to evaluate extent and location
- Biopsy to determine type of mass
๐ Treatment:
- Depends on type:
- Nasal polyps: corticosteroid sprays or surgery
- Benign tumors: surgical removal
- Malignant tumors: surgery, radiation, chemotherapy
- Treat infections if present
