Nasal masses refer to abnormal growths or swellings inside the nasal cavity or sinuses. They can range from benign (non-cancerous) to malignant (cancerous) and may cause nasal obstruction or other symptoms.


๐Ÿงฌ Types & Causes:

  • Benign masses:
    • Nasal polyps (soft, painless, inflammatory growths)
    • Papillomas (wart-like growths)
    • Mucoceles (cyst-like swellings)
    • Hemangiomas (blood vessel tumors)
  • Malignant masses:
    • Squamous cell carcinoma
    • Adenocarcinoma
    • Melanoma
    • Lymphoma
  • Other causes:
    • Foreign bodies (especially in children)
    • Inflammatory or infectious swellings

๐Ÿฉบ Symptoms:

  • Nasal blockage or congestion
  • Nasal discharge, sometimes bloody
  • Reduced or lost sense of smell
  • Facial pain or pressure
  • Nosebleeds
  • Swelling or deformity of the nose or face (in large masses)

๐Ÿ” Diagnosis:

  • Physical and nasal endoscopic examination
  • Imaging (CT or MRI) to evaluate extent and location
  • Biopsy to determine type of mass

๐Ÿ’Š Treatment:

  • Depends on type:
    • Nasal polyps: corticosteroid sprays or surgery
    • Benign tumors: surgical removal
    • Malignant tumors: surgery, radiation, chemotherapy
  • Treat infections if present
