🤕 Nasal Fracture
A nasal fracture is a break or crack in the bones of the nose, usually caused by trauma or injury.
🧬 Causes:
- Sports injuries
- Falls or accidents
- Physical assaults
- Car accidents
🩺 Symptoms:
- Pain and tenderness around the nose
- Swelling and bruising (around the nose and under eyes)
- Deformity or crooked appearance of the nose
- Bleeding from the nose
- Difficulty breathing through the nose
- Nasal congestion or stuffiness
🔍 Diagnosis:
- Physical examination by a doctor
- Imaging (X-rays or CT scan) to assess the fracture and check for other injuries
💊 Treatment:
- Ice packs to reduce swelling
- Pain relief with medications like acetaminophen or ibuprofen
- Avoid blowing the nose to prevent bleeding
- In some cases, closed reduction (realigning the bones without surgery) within 1-2 weeks after injury
- Surgery (open reduction) for severe or complicated fractures
- Follow-up to check healing and function
⚠️ Complications:
- Nasal deformity
- Persistent nasal obstruction
- Septal hematoma (blood collection inside nasal septum)
- Chronic nosebleeds or infections
