👓 Hyperopia (Farsightedness) – Overview
Hyperopia is a common vision condition where near objects appear blurry, while distant objects may be seen more clearly.
⚙️ Cause
- The eyeball is too short or the cornea is too flat.
- Light focuses behind the retina instead of directly on it.
📋 Symptoms
- Difficulty focusing on close objects (reading, smartphone)
- Eye strain or fatigue, especially after close work
- Headaches
- Squinting to see clearly
🩺 Diagnosis
- Eye exam with refraction test
- Visual acuity testing
💊 Treatment
- Prescription glasses or contact lenses (convex lenses)
- Refractive surgery (e.g., LASIK) in some cases
⚠️ Complications
- Severe hyperopia can cause constant eye strain or lead to crossed eyes (strabismus) in children
🛡️ Prevention & Management
- Regular eye check-ups, especially for children
- Corrective lenses to reduce strain
